當造你自塵土中
上帝微笑著
看你為萬物命名
上帝微笑著
取肋骨以造配偶
上帝微笑著
瞧你們樂在伊甸
上帝微笑著

知道你們赤身露體
上帝難過了
聽到你們卸責辯解
上帝心碎了

於是，上帝驅逐你們
出伊甸園，流著淚
黯然神傷

〈Sorrow of the Divine〉

When He formed you from the dust,

God smiled.

When you named the creatures of the earth,

God smiled.

When He drew from your rib to fashion your companion,

God smiled.

When He beheld your joy in Eden,

God smiled.

But when He saw your nakedness unveiled,

God grew sorrowful.

And when He heard your tongues weave blame and defense,

God’s heart was broken.

Thus God sent you forth—

out of Eden,

His tears falling upon the gates,

His soul shadowed with

a sorrow too deep for words.
